Each group will be given an equal opportunity related topic on which to develop and
prepare a report and a sample workplace policy .
Task 1 ?? Legislation Report:
You are to research the legislation (law) that governs work practices for your equal
opportunity topic. The information must demonstrate understanding of the legislation
and particularly how it applies in the workplace. The following headings must be
addressed:
1. The title of the Act/Legislation;;
2. The formal definition of the behaviour and issues that the legislation addresses;;
3. Provide one example of direct discrimination and one example of indirect
discrimination that applies to your topic;;
4. What areas of society / life that this legislation applies to;;
5. Who is/are at risk from the behaviour covered by this legislation?
6. What can be the effects of the behaviour covered in this legislation on staff,
customers and business?
7. What preventative measures can be taken by management to address the behaviour
covered in this legislation? Include areas of:
?? Induction processes for new employees
?? Ongoing Training and mentoring;;
?? Policies and procedures;;
?? Codes of behaviour relating to this legislation
?? Supervision, enforcement and penalties for breeches of the codes of behaviour
?? Performance management.
8. What can management do to assist employees to mix, get to know each other
and work more effectively in dealing with differences within the team? How will
this benefit the organisation??s products, services and customer relations?

Task 2 – Design your own Business Policy
To help you design your own business policy and have a template to use as a guide, it is
recommended that you source from the internet, and review, a similar type of policy in
a current food / hospitality business.
In your group write your own policy/procedure that addresses the Legislation you were
given for Task 1. The Policy must be linked to your Topic and the policy must address
the issues you want to present in your role as a Trainer. The information should include
the following headings:
?? The title of the policy
?? Any specific legislation that your policy relates to;;
?? An introduction to the policy, including the reasons/purpose for this policy and a
statement of its objectives;;
?? Definitions of any behaviours / issues that this policy covers
?? Employees?? responsibility in relation to this policy;;
?? Managements?? responsibility in relation to this policy;;
?? Clear codes of behaviour relating to this policy for all staff;;
?? Disciplinary action(s) and penalties to be taken for breeches of behaviour
covered by this policy;;
?? A complaint / reporting process for any victims of, or witnesses to, breeches
of behaviour covered by this policy, including how these will be handled by
management;;
?? Any other heading relevant to your policy.
Resources & Research: You may research and use newspaper articles, web sites, case
studies, filmed interviews, you tube or any other resource to assist in completing this
task. Please include a bibliography of all references used (see guide on Mywai).
